Things Walter says, morning edition

18 May

Just a few months ago I was worried that Walter would need speech therapy to figure out how to talk. People would say, “Oh, he’ll start talking and you’ll wish he wouldn’t talk so much!” I’m sorry, but, I love every word (even the frustrating ones) that comes out of his mouth. It is joyful to be able to communicate with him. And he really does say the most awesome things.

My husband has this tattooed on his arm:

I know. I felt the same way when I first saw it.

This morning as the three of us were waking up, Walter pointed at his dad’s tattoo and said, “Daddy has a band-aid. It won’t come off.” I asked him to tell me what letters it said.

N-A-S-C-A-R. It spells “Daddy”

Later we took Duggy on his morning walk. Walter has started singing “Walkin in the jun-gle” on repeat as he walks on any wall he can find around the block and through all the bushes. The boy loves to sing. Then he asked to sing some other songs with me. When we’d finish, say, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I’d ask him if he wanted to sing it again. He replied, “No, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star song is gone.”

I’m pretty sure he couldn’t make me a happier mama.
